The Game

The Vile Dungeon of Cairnmoor is a turn-based roguelite inspired by classic ARPGs. There's a small town, and under it a dungeon with 20 floors. You go down to fight monsters and find loot, and go back up to town to spend your gold.

Turns

After you move or attack, the monsters take their turns. They don't act until you do, so you can take as long as you want over each move. Fast monsters get more turns than you, and slow monsters get fewer.

You can tap or click to walk and attack, or use the keyboard. All keys can be changed in the settings.

Loot

Items are normal, magic, rare, set or unique. They have random affixes, such as resistances, life steal, thorns, critical chance, attack and cast speed, and +skills. Affixes get stronger on deeper floors. Items don't need to be identified, so you see what an item does as soon as it drops.

Skills and traits

There are no classes. There are eight skill trees with 92 skills, and you can learn skills from any of them. The first time you reach a floor, you pick one of three traits. After a boss, you pick a keystone. See the Skills page.

Dying

When you die, you lose your level, your skills, the items you carried and half the gold you carried. You wake up in your bed at the tavern at level 1, and the dungeon is new. Gold in the bank and items in the stash are kept. You spend the gold on buildings and upgrades in town. See the Town page.

Your first life isn't meant to reach the last floor. Most players should win on their third or fourth life, after buying upgrades in town.

Difficulty

There are five difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, Cruel, Brutal and Merciless. Winning on Hard unlocks the endless dungeon. It goes on past floor 20 and gets harder every 20 floors.

Platforms

The game is coming to Android and Windows. There is a free demo with the first three acts that you can play in the browser. See the Play page.
